Tirana Riverside is a masterplan for a new mixed-use neighbourhood in Tirana, Albania, on publicly owned land near the Tirana River along the city’s northern edge. The project is listed as dating from 2020 and ongoing, with the Municipality of Tirana as client. 1
Stefano Boeri Architetti designed the project with local partner SON-Group. The studio’s founding partner is Stefano Boeri, and Francesca Cesa Bianchi is partner and project director. 1 The proposal covers 29 hectares and is planned to accommodate 12,000 people. 1
The neighbourhood is organised around a green central spine for walking and cycling, with housing alongside shops, workspaces, sports areas and public spaces. Its planned facilities include a school, a university centre, public and administrative services, and a river park. The plan distributes services among three central locations within walking distance of one another. 1
Green space is a major component: the plan includes 15 hectares of green surfaces, with up to 18 hectares across the masterplan when roofs are included. It proposes 12,000 plants from more than 100 native species, over five kilometres of cycle paths and 90,000 square metres of open public space. 1 The project description also outlines solar panels, clean-energy production and storage, and prefabricated construction, including wood. 1
The project page does not identify a developer or state a completion date; it lists the Municipality of Tirana as client and describes the scheme as ongoing. 1
