TMMOB Mimarlar Odası Ankara Şubesi is the Ankara branch of the Chamber of Architects of Turkey, a professional organisation for architects. The branch was established on 25 December 1955, following the Chamber’s formation and the creation of regional branches in 1955.5
Its headquarters are at Konur Sokak 4/3 in Ankara’s Kızılay/ Yenişehir area.4 The branch’s remit extends beyond the city: it has coordinated local representatives in places including Bolu, Çorum, Kırşehir, Karabük, Kırıkkale, Zonguldak and Karadeniz Ereğli.11 It is therefore locally based but has a wider regional presence within Turkey.
The branch’s activities span professional practice and public engagement. Its work has included professional oversight and continuing education, as well as events and projects on architectural culture, urban development and the preservation of Ankara’s architectural and cultural heritage. It has also organised student activities, competitions, exhibitions and public discussions addressing the city and its built environment.
The Chamber’s main office lists Zeynep Eres Özdoğan as its national president, but the available current branch listing does not establish the Ankara branch’s current leadership.12 A branch report identifies Tezcan Karakuş Candan as chair during the 43rd term; that historical information should not be taken as confirmation of the present chair.
