Bau- und Heimstättenverein Stuttgart eG is a housing cooperative based in Stuttgart, Germany, focused on providing affordable and comfortable rental housing in and around Stuttgart since 1924.6 The cooperative celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2024, underlining its long-standing role in the regional housing market.6
The organisation manages a housing stock of over 2,600 apartments, making it one of the largest housing cooperatives in the Stuttgart region.26 Its properties are distributed across almost all districts of Stuttgart as well as the nearby cities of Leonberg and Ostfildern, with locations including Stuttgart Nord, West, Ost, Mitte/Süd, Bad Cannstatt, Mühlhausen/Freiberg, Feuerbach, Giebel/Bergheim, Heumaden/Riedenberg, Vaihingen/Kaltental, Fasanenhof and Scharnhauser Park.23 The cooperative’s core activity is the long-term provision and management of member-focused rental housing; all available apartments are advertised via its own website rather than through waiting lists.5
In addition to standard residential units, the cooperative offers guest apartments (Gästewohnungen) at several addresses in Stuttgart (Freiberg, Giebel and West), available to members and their visitors for temporary stays.1 Through participation in a nationwide pool of cooperatives with guest apartments, members can access a wider network of 55 guest flats in 23 cities across Germany.10
The registered office and main contact address are located at Wilhelm-Blos-Straße 59, 70191 Stuttgart.4 The cooperative is led by a two-person board (Vorstand), currently Karin Autenrieth and Stefan Singer, supported by dedicated teams for membership administration, lettings, technical services, accounting and operations.4
