Atelier SAD is an architectural and design studio established in Prague in 2002 by Jerry Koza, Adam Jirkal, Martin Kalhous, and Tomáš Kalhous. Today, the team comprises nine architects and two engineers, with several permanent collaborators specializing in budgeting, electrical systems, HVAC, structural engineering, and fire safety. Their work spans a broad spectrum, including private homes, apartment buildings, offices, bridges, retail gas stations, art installations, and product design.
Atelier SAD is recognized for blending sculptural architectural concepts with precise engineering and workmanship. The team often draws on elements from concrete Brutalism and the sculptural forms of 1960s architecture, integrating contemporary technologies, materials, and craft. Notable projects include the award-winning Family House at Rašovka, designed in collaboration with interior designer Iveta Zachariášová. This home featured innovative use of Portuguese cork façade and demonstrated respect for local landscape, history, and materials. Another example is the reconstruction of an agricultural barn in Loubí, where the studio integrated existing historical structures with modern wooden residential cores, maintaining a balance between tradition and new design.
Atelier SAD’s portfolio ranges from residential housing to commercial interiors, and even technical infrastructure projects. Their approach is notable for direct collaboration with implementation teams, such as MY76, allowing flexibility and attention to evolving project needs. Throughout their work, they maintain a commitment to originality while respecting the context and heritage of each site.
