ZAC Pirmil-Les Isles is a major urban development project along the Loire, spanning Nantes and Rezé in western France. The zone was created in 2018 and is one of five large urban projects planned around the river. Its overall programme includes 3,300 homes, 100,000 m² of office space, shops and public facilities. 211
The project is led by Nantes Métropole, with Nantes Métropole Aménagement acting as its development agent; the municipalities of Nantes, Rezé and Bouguenais have also been involved. 1112 Its first area to change is Basse-Île, where former slaughterhouse grounds are being redeveloped. The plans for the sector include homes, workplaces, shops and public facilities, including a metropolitan Olympic swimming pool. 13
The first five housing blocks were assigned to development groups following a consultation launched in June 2022. 1 Among the named programmes, Groupe CIF is responsible for 121 homes: 51 for open-market purchase, 42 under the affordable BRS ownership scheme and 28 social-rental homes. 1 The Aethica and Quartus–Galeo blocks together account for 261 homes, including 184 open-market and 77 social homes. 1 The Basse-Île plans also set an objective of 30% social housing. 3
The first 450 homes were scheduled to begin construction at the end of 2025 on the former slaughterhouse site, which had hosted the cultural site Transfert for five years. 1 The planned swimming pool is expected by the end of 2028 and is to include 50-metre and 25-metre pools. 21
