The Willy-Jacob-Weg project is a 36-home residential development at Willy-Jacob-Weg 1a+1b in Kiel, Germany, developed by the Wohnungsbau-Genossenschaft Kiel-Ost eG. 2 Planning began in 2021; construction officially started on 12 May 2025, and the cooperative currently expects the building to be ready for occupancy in March 2027. 4
The scheme includes 15 publicly subsidised apartments, intended for households eligible for housing support, and a mix of two-, three- and four-room homes measuring about 48–104 square metres. 24 The design includes three full storeys and a set-back upper storey, step-free access via two entrances and lifts, and a private terrace, balcony or roof terrace for each home. 23 Plans also provide 48 car-parking spaces, including 18 in an open underground garage, as well as covered bicycle parking and a small playground. 23
The project’s “simple construction” approach is intended to limit building costs while providing functional homes. The report says the cooperative reduced the planned cost per square metre from €4,400 to just over €4,000, in part by using thinner exterior walls and slabs and balconies attached to the façade. 1 The reported total construction cost is about €9.96 million gross. 1 The development is part of the cooperative’s broader work to provide housing on Kiel’s east bank; the cooperative also manages existing homes and pursues construction and modernisation projects in the area. 1011
