Wahlverwandtschaften Bonn-Endenich eG is a cooperative housing community at Magdalenenstraße 29 in the centre of Endenich, a district of Bonn, Germany. It is one of the housing communities connected to Wahlverwandtschaften Bonn e.V., a volunteer-run association founded in 2005 to support intergenerational shared housing. The association founded the Endenich cooperative in 2018. 21
The cooperative acquired a site containing Villa Richarz, a building dating from 1864, in October 2018. By summer 2020, the villa had been renovated in line with heritage-protection requirements to provide seven homes, and two single-storey gatehouses had been built along Magdalenenstraße. The first residents moved in during August 2020; the gatehouses were occupied in November. 15
The community comprises 20 residents, aged from three to 78, living in separate apartments. The cooperative rents the homes to its members with lifelong rights of use; four apartments are subsidised housing. Residents largely financed the purchase and renovation themselves, and share responsibility for running the house and making decisions about it. 1
The project also aims to connect with the wider Endenich neighbourhood. A meeting room in the basement level is intended for local groups, associations and individuals to use. The cooperative’s activities therefore include managing its housing collectively as well as making space available for community use. 1
