Nördliches Ringgebiet is a large residential development in Braunschweig, Germany, planned across several sections north of the city centre. The project began with the first construction phase in Taubenstraße; the city council approved the Jütenring development plan on 11 June 2024, clearing the way for the third phase. 345
The wider neighbourhood is located around the former Nordbahnhof and extends between Wodanstraße and Weinbergweg to the north, Bültenweg to the east, Hamburger Straße to the west and Rebenring to the south. 4 The city’s June 2024 announcement puts the total planned yield across the three phases at about 1,300 homes. 2 The Jütenring section is planned for approximately 340 homes, between Wodanstraße/Gotenweg, the Ringgleis and Nordanger. 2
The development’s stated aim includes providing affordable housing, with the city citing the council’s 30 per cent social-housing target for the overall area. 2 Three Braunschweig housing cooperatives are identified as important participants, though the announcement does not name them or designate one overall developer. 2 In the first phase, Nibelungen-Wohnbau GmbH owns the 4.1-hectare Taubenstraße site, with Baugenossenschaft Wiederaufbau eG and Braunschweiger Baugenossenschaft eG named as partners. 11
Braunschweig’s mayor, Dr. Thorsten Kornblum, commented on the project following the Jütenring plan decision. 2 At the time of the announcement, the city said infrastructure works and marketing for the third phase could begin in 2025. 2
