Klimaschutzsiedlung „Ewige Teufe“ is a residential development by Spar- und Bauverein eG Dortmund on Zillestraße in Dortmund, Germany. The cooperative is the project’s developer, and construction began in mid-2022. 25 The development comprises five apartment buildings and 37 homes on a site of about 6,000 square metres, with approximately 3,000 square metres of residential space. 45 It was planned for completion by summer 2024. 6
The homes include 24 privately financed apartments and 13 publicly subsidised units. 8 One building was developed with Wohnen im Ort e.V. for young adults with disabilities or other support needs. 310 The project therefore combines housing provision with a specific supported-living component.
The buildings use monolithic exterior walls and have green roofs and photovoltaic panels. The solar installations are expected to generate about 60,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually; the project’s stated aim is for residents to use as much of that power as possible, with the buildings able to produce more energy than they consume on an annual calculated basis. 6 The development is part of North Rhine-Westphalia’s “100 Climate Protection Settlements” programme and was designed to the KfW 40 Plus efficiency standard. 48
The groundbreaking ceremony brought together representatives of the state ministry, the City of Dortmund, architecture practice Post+Welters and social partners including Wohnen im Ort and Diakonie. 2 Franz-Bernd Große-Wilde, chair of the cooperative’s board, described the project as a joint effort involving more than 15 partners. 2
