Kastel Housing – Gemeinsam leben in Kastel (GliK) is an intergenerational housing project in Mainz-Kastel, a district of Wiesbaden, Germany. It is organised by the association Gemeinsam leben in Kastel e.V. (GliK), whose members live in rental homes across the development. The association was founded in 2019, and residents moved in during 2022. 2
The project brings together families, couples, individuals and shared households, with no specific target group. Its aim is communal living with social responsibility and sustainability. Members live in separate homes while sharing a community space and pursuing neighbourly activities, mutual help and resource-conscious practices. 21
GliK’s project was planned in cooperation with the municipal housing company GWW Wiesbadener Wohnbaugesellschaft mbH; the wider site was developed by GWW and the Wiesbaden urban development company SEG. 110 The project profile describes a mix of conventional rental flats and cluster apartments, where private rooms with facilities are combined with a shared kitchen. It reports 80 homes across a new building, a renovated former barracks and a residential tower, with at least 25 homes intended for GliK members. 1 The city’s project overview confirms that GliK members live across the three buildings on Wiesbadener Straße 78–80. 2
The project profile lists a planning start in 2020 and an intended occupancy in 2022. The association continues to describe its focus as intergenerational communal living and sustainable, socially responsible ways of living together. 21
