Galivivienda Distrito Z is a cooperative housing development in the Sánchez Blanca area of Málaga, Spain, within the planned Distrito Zeta neighbourhood.2 The project is being developed by Galivivienda, a national, non-profit housing cooperative founded in 2007 and based in Pozuelo de Alarcón, Madrid.35 Its activities focus on developing housing for cooperative members at cost, including both protected and unrestricted housing projects.57
The cooperative was awarded the R1.5 and R1.9 plots through a public tender organised by Málaga City Council.2 The development is planned to provide 319 public-protection homes under a special regime, primarily for young people and families, with rental contracts that include an option to purchase.2 The wider Distrito Zeta area is planned to contain 3,443 homes, alongside green areas, public transport and local services.2
The project is structured as a self-development cooperative scheme rather than a conventional private sale. The homes are planned as two- and three-bedroom units, with a gated residential complex, communal areas, parking spaces and a swimming pool.2 The project page describes sustainability and affordability as central objectives and lists construction specifications including reinforced-concrete foundations and structure, insulated façades and roofs, PVC windows with double glazing, and internal partitions incorporating mineral wool.2
At the time of the available project information, the development was at the licence-application stage, while the cooperative had begun identifying and registering prospective members in collaboration with Málaga’s municipal housing body and CONCOVI’s housing-demand register.2 The project therefore combines public land allocation with cooperative development and a long-term rent-to-buy model.
