Cohousing viale Lenin is a planned social-housing and collaborative-living project at viale Lenin 14/2 and 14/3 in Bologna, Italy. Its developer is the Cooperativa Edificatrice Giuseppe Dozza, which was selected for funding under Emilia-Romagna’s “Social Housing 2023” programme. The programme supports access to housing at agreed rents through grants for social-housing initiatives. 2
The project is intended to refurbish a municipally owned building that had been unused and uninhabitable for more than 20 years. Plans described in the 2024 announcement called for about 10 homes, alongside shared spaces. The proposal is framed as collaborative and socially oriented housing, with residents sharing and managing domestic and communal areas. 2
The City of Bologna invited expressions of interest for a 60-year surface right to the property, to enable a project consistent with the regional funding programme. Three expressions of interest were submitted by the end of February 2024; the city allowed those operators to apply for regional funding and undertook to grant the surface right to the successful recipient. 2 The building’s use for social housing and collaborative living is required to continue for at least 20 years. 2
The cooperative traces its origins to 1920, when it was established as “La Federale”; it adopted the name Cooperativa Edificatrice Giuseppe Dozza in 1980. 3 The original article, published on 9 July 2024, projected completion of the executive design by January 2025 and the start of construction by summer 2025. These were forecasts made at the time, not confirmation of subsequent progress. 2
