Amaryllis eG is a resident-led, self-managed housing cooperative in Vilich-Müldorf, in the Beuel district on the eastern edge of Bonn, Germany. Its three houses accommodate 33 homes and around 70 residents, from children to older adults. Residents have lived there since 2007. 41
The project grew out of a group formed in 1992 as Amaryllis e.V. The cooperative was established in 2005 to organise and finance the housing project; it was responsible for planning and delivering the new-build development. Construction began in November 2006, and residents moved in from summer 2007 through early 2008. 245
The cooperative owns the homes, while residents jointly manage the project and its shared responsibilities. Its approach combines independent living across generations with practical neighbourly support, including support when residents are ill or need care. Ecologically responsible living, shared decision-making and collective management are also part of the project’s stated principles. 511
Amaryllis also shares its experience beyond the residential community. It offers regular introductory cafés for people interested in learning about the project and advises groups on building and sustaining communities, legal structures for cooperative housing, self-managed living and financing housing cooperatives. The project notes that homes become available only rarely. 1
Developer: Amaryllis eG, the housing cooperative established to plan and carry out the development. 47
