Vereniging Deltametropool is an independent Dutch association and research organisation based in Rotterdam. It works on metropolitan development in the Netherlands and the wider Eurodelta, understood as an interconnected region encompassing the Randstad, the Flemish Diamond and the Ruhr area.34
The organisation initiates and coordinates independent design research, conducts research of its own, shares knowledge and advises public authorities and businesses.34 Its work addresses spatial planning and urban development, including inner-city renewal, mobility and accessibility, energy transition, economic resilience, landscape and the strengthening of the Eurodelta metropolis.46 It also convenes members and other partners through workshops, debates, conferences and other events, and provides a platform for discussion and collaboration across professional and institutional boundaries.46
The association brings together public authorities, businesses, knowledge institutions, civil-society organisations, professionals and individuals.46 Its stated geographic perspective extends beyond the Netherlands: the Eurodelta concept connects the Randstad with neighbouring urban regions in Belgium and Germany.46 The organisation’s independent research and advisory work is intended to inform administrators and policymakers on issues such as prosperity, infrastructure, sustainability and quality of life.4
The association’s roots date to a 1998 declaration by the four Randstad cities; sources differ on the formal founding year, with its own site referring to 1998 and LinkedIn listing 2000.63 The organisation’s team includes agent Paul Gerretsen and project leaders including Alankrita Sarkar, while its daily board is chaired by Leen Verbeek.8 Its listed Rotterdam address is Museumpark 25.4
