Stempel & Tesar architekti is an architectural studio established in Prague in 2008 by Ján Stempel and Jan Jakub Tesař. Ján Stempel brings over four decades of experience, having worked at the SIAL studio and co-founded the ADNS office before becoming a professor at the Czech Technical University (CTU) in Prague. Jan Jakub Tesař, a generation younger, studied architecture both at CTU and Delft University of Technology, bringing international perspectives from the Netherlands.
The studio specializes in single-family houses and residential architecture, with several projects located in the Prague metropolitan area and across the Czech Republic. Their approach emphasizes structural experimentation and integration with challenging sites, as seen in notable works like Villa Sidonius, completed between 2016 and 2024. Situated in Černošice, this project features a bridge-like steel structure perched on reinforced concrete pillars, designed to maximize views and sunlight in a steep terrain.
Other recent works include the passive-certified House on Windy Peak in the Ore Mountains, which addresses extreme climatic conditions with energy-efficient technology and traditional materials. Their portfolio also covers renovations, visitor centers, and conversions, demonstrating a range beyond residential projects.
The core team comprises the two founders and a stable group of collaborating engineers and landscape designers. Stempel & Tesar architekti are recognized both locally and internationally for their technical precision and careful attention to site-specific challenges, blending scientific thoroughness with architectural creativity.
