SET Architects is an architecture practice founded in 2015 by Onorato di Manno and Andrea Tanci. The firm is based in Rome, not Milan, and operates out of Via della Stazione Ostiense. Both founders studied interior design at Sapienza University and completed architecture degrees at Roma Tre University. Their early careers included international experience, with Tanci working in Chile, Indonesia, and Australia, and di Manno contributing to global projects at Studio Labics.
The studio’s philosophy centers on reducing architecture to its essentials, often drawing from archetypal forms and prioritizing a synthesis between concept and function. Their approach is deeply informed by ongoing research and a connection between professional practice and academia; both founders also serve as faculty at the European Institute of Design and Iowa State University.
SET Architects’ scope covers residential projects, public spaces, interior renovations, and educational facilities. Among their recent accolades are a first-place win for a primary school in Tuscany (2023), a third prize for an art and music school (2023), and recognition for a tunnel project called Drop City. A notable earlier project is the New School Complex in Sassa, which also earned them first place in its competition. They have been selected for exhibitions and events such as the Tallinn Architecture Biennale and the MAXXI Museum.
Despite their Roman base, SET Architects has also worked in Milan, evidenced by interior projects such as a home office renovation. However, all organizational data consistently points to Rome as their headquarters.
