OOIIO Arquitectura is a Madrid-based architecture studio established in 2010 by Joaquín Millán Villamuelas, a graduate of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. The studio was founded amid the severe economic crisis in Spain, which shaped its approach to resourceful design and innovation under pressure. Millán Villamuelas’ early professional experience included working with prominent firms such as Norman Foster and Rem Koolhaas, experiences that influenced OOIIO’s commitment to distinctiveness in every project.
The core of OOIIO’s portfolio spans residential buildings, adaptive reuse, public spaces, and interiors, with projects ranging in scale from individual homes to urban squares. Notably, the practice has garnered numerous national and international awards in recent years, including recognition from Archilovers and the Coverings Installation & Design Awards for projects like the Villafranca House, TUR House, and the adaptive reuse of warehouse apartments in Madrid. TUR House, for instance, received a Special Recognition at the 2025 CID Awards and has been highlighted for its inventive use of Spanish ceramic tiles.
Staffed by a team of roughly 10 to 15 professionals, OOIIO remains focused on generating unique architectural responses tailored to each commission. The studio’s work is marked by an emphasis on color, material, and context-specific creativity, avoiding repetition and standardization across projects.
