Murcia Cohousing, formally the Asociación Murcia Cohousing, is a non-profit association based in Murcia, Spain. Its registered address is on Calle Pintor Pedro Flores in the city of Murcia.23 The association says it was established in 2019; its earlier history includes a cohousing group that began in 2012, so the group’s origins predate the association’s formation.14
Its purpose is to promote collaborative housing in the Region of Murcia and support people in forming groups and cooperatives to develop such projects.56 Its work includes sharing information about cohousing, advising and accompanying groups, offering training and connecting people interested in the model.67 The association also describes its role as supporting projects at different stages of development.7
Cohousing is a form of community living in which residents have private homes alongside shared spaces and collectively manage aspects of their community.8 Murcia Cohousing places emphasis on self-management and on creating intergenerational groups, while its stated aims also include mutual support and helping address housing, care and social-isolation needs.58
The association’s geographic focus is regional rather than national: it supports cohousing initiatives across the Region of Murcia.57 Its statutes also provide for cooperation with similar organisations at regional, national and international levels.3 Carmen Rico and Ginés Martínez were identified as its president and treasurer, respectively, in a 2024 interview.1
