Living Future Europe ETS, established in 2019 and legally based in Italy, operates as an affiliate of the International Living Future Institute (ILFI). The organisation focuses on transforming the European built environment by promoting regenerative design and construction practices. Its mission is to catalyse a shift from conventional, resource-intensive building approaches to ones that restore ecological and social balance.
Living Future Europe addresses critical issues posed by the construction sector, such as high energy use (40% of final energy consumption in the EU) and waste generation (32% of total waste). It advocates for frameworks like the Living Building Challenge, considered one of the world’s most rigorous green building standards, and brings these to European practitioners through training, consulting, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Since its creation, Living Future Europe has had impact through more than 800 projects worldwide, covering over 5 million square meters. Reported returns include net-zero carbon buildings and positive effects on occupant well-being and productivity. The organisation runs programs and events like the annual LF25 conference, which gathers professionals around regenerative building themes. Living Future Europe’s consulting and educational activities serve architects, engineers, and developers aiming to certify projects or apply frameworks such as Living Building Challenge, Declare, and Living Product Challenge.
The association acts as a regional representative for ILFI, focusing its activities in Europe with a particular emphasis on community engagement, professional education, and advancing regenerative building standards.
