LebensWeGe Aachen eG is a housing cooperative founded in August 2013 by Aachen residents seeking to create a self-determined, neighbour-led housing project. Its stated aim is to provide homes for people who want to live in a relationship of solidarity with their neighbours; the cooperative describes itself as the first in Aachen established for this purpose.12
The cooperative uses the cooperative model to support shared living and protect its projects from speculative interests. Its work includes developing housing projects, and it also welcomes existing building groups whose aims align with its own.2 The first project was built on Mataréstraße in Aachen-Forst. The cooperative’s site says it treats neighbourhood work as part of its remit, extending the aim of active, supportive community beyond residents’ homes into the surrounding district.1011
Its activities are centred on Aachen, Germany. The cooperative’s statutes also describe networking and information exchange with other housing projects and initiatives, particularly in Aachen and also at national level.8 The registered address listed in its imprint is Mataréstraße 14, 52078 Aachen.4 The imprint names Brigitta Dreisow, Dagmar Erwert, Christian Hemsing and Cornelia Wilkert as board members.4
