Jancalek Architects is an architectural studio based in Prague, led by Petr Jančálek, a graduate of the Czech Technical University in 2007. Following his studies, Jančálek gained professional experience at several architectural firms, including Radan Hubička, Gianni Baretti Architects, and Metroprojekt Praha, as well as through an internship in Spain. Since 2009, he has operated independently and officially established his studio around 2011.
The studio primarily focuses on residential projects—both renovations and new interiors—in Prague’s city center. Typical commissions include the reconstruction of apartments in heritage buildings, such as a notable recent project in a neoclassical building in Karlín. This project, completed between 2020–2023, involved extending an apartment into the attic, adding a new dormer, and restoring historic elements while introducing contemporary details like discreet air conditioning and frameless doors. These projects emphasize the use of natural materials—wood, stone, and brushed steel—integrated with modern technologies.
Jancalek Architects manages all phases of a project, from initial studies, visualizations, and engineering, to construction documentation, site supervision, and interior styling. The practice adapts traditional craft, preferring to use local resources and work closely with clients and stylists when selecting furnishings and artwork. The studio typically works on a small number of projects concurrently, aiming for sensitivity to historical context, contemporary standard, and practicality. The main office is located in Prague 4 Nusle. Jancalek Architects’ work reflects a consistent interest in the interplay of old and new, without resorting to decorative excess or generic solutions.
