Ginkgo Advisor, founded in 2010 and based in Grand-Lancy near Geneva, Switzerland, is an independent investment advisor focused on sustainable urban regeneration in Europe. The organisation manages and advises the Ginkgo funds, which specialize in redeveloping polluted or derelict urban sites—commonly known as brownfields—primarily across France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and the Netherlands.
Ginkgo Advisor’s team includes around 20 to 25 professionals, drawn from fields including decontamination, finance, geology, real estate, and project management, based in several European countries. Major stakeholders in their funds have included Edmond de Rothschild Group, the European Investment Bank, and national investment bodies from France and Belgium.
Since its inception, Ginkgo Advisor has raised over €609 million through three dedicated funds: Ginkgo I (€82 million), Ginkgo II (€160 million), and Ginkgo III (€367 million). These funds have enabled the redevelopment of over 27 sites, covering nearly 895,000 square meters of building rights. Notable projects have occurred in French cities such as Lyon, Marseille, and Annecy; in Belgium, in cities such as Tournai and Uccle; and in Spain, notably Málaga.
Ginkgo’s activities revolve around addressing complex urban and environmental challenges by reclaiming and remediating industrial land, then transforming it for new housing, offices, and public amenities. The work is highly technical, requiring expertise in environmental regulation and urban planning, and Ginkgo’s projects are often cited as flagship cases for sustainable urban transformation.
