Duplex Architekten AG is an architectural practice founded in 2007 by Anne Kaestle and Dan Schürch, headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. The firm has expanded from its Swiss roots, operating additional offices in Düsseldorf, Hamburg, and, more recently, Paris. Duplex employs a team of approximately 50 people across these locations, with management supported by associates in each office.
Duplex Architekten’s portfolio reflects a diverse range of work, encompassing urban planning, housing developments, schools, office buildings, and the adaptive reuse of existing structures. Their approach is rooted in a detailed exploration of each site's particular characteristics rather than a signature style, giving attention to the interplay between private and communal spaces.
One of their most recognized projects is the “More than Living” development at the Hunziker Areal in Zurich, including 370 apartments along with shops, restaurants, workshops, day care centres, and artist studios. The project is notable for its emphasis on creating a vibrant urban quarter, integrating communal spaces with private retreats, and adopting innovative construction methods to reduce energy consumption. This work has received several awards, including the World Habitat Award and the Wienerberger Brick Award.
Recent and ongoing projects include the Glasi Quarter in Bülach, the Brunnenhof in Zurich, and the Wydäckerring residential development, also in Zurich. Duplex Architekten continues to focus on complex urban developments and the transformation of existing buildings, often emerging from successful competition entries and consistently addressing the social dimension of architecture.
