Austrian Green Planet Building (AGPB) is an initiative based in Vienna, Austria, operating under the joint sponsorship of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology, and ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA, the foreign trade arm of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber. Established in 2018, AGPB focuses on recognizing and supporting sustainable building practices developed by Austrian companies, with a particular emphasis on energy efficiency and renewable energy supply.
AGPB’s core activity is the annual Austrian Green Planet Building Award, which highlights international building projects realized with significant Austrian involvement in architecture, planning, construction, or technology. The award draws on the criteria of Austria’s national climate protection program, klimaaktiv, and extends its standards to projects outside Austria. These criteria have already been implemented in over 1,500 buildings within Austria.
Recent award-winning projects demonstrate the diversity of AGPB’s reach: from the Markas Headquarters in Bolzano, Italy—a building praised for its ecological and social sustainability integration—to the TUM Campus in Munich’s Olympic Park, distinguished for its timber construction, groundwater-based heating, and high degree of prefabrication. Other celebrated projects include energy-efficient schools in Berlin and the Austrian Pavilion at EXPO 2020 Dubai.
Through its awards and international communication efforts, AGPB advances Austrian expertise in sustainable building around the world, supporting the transition to climate-neutral construction with a strong focus on real-world application, measurable standards, and transparent evaluation.
