ASUTUT – Sustainable Housing Design is a research group in the Architecture unit of Tampere University’s Faculty of Built Environment, based in Tampere, Finland.23 The group conducts user-centred, process-oriented research into housing design, combining theoretical, historical, practice-based, social and scientific approaches.3
Its work examines how homes and living environments can respond to challenges including climate change, limited resources, population ageing, health and well-being, loneliness, pollution, urbanisation and housing affordability.3 Research areas include adaptable and inclusive housing, co-housing and shared spaces, energy-efficient and low-carbon design, building performance and resident satisfaction, and sustainable architecture education.312 The group also studies housing for older adults and the social and spatial implications of working from home.4
ASUTUT combines research and teaching, and has drawn on expertise across housing architecture, architectural engineering, urban planning and energy policy.4 Its collaborations include European education and research projects, while some projects address housing issues in Finland; its work therefore reaches beyond its university base, though the sources do not define a single formal geographic remit.1213
Professor Sofie Pelsmakers leads the group, and Katja Maununaho and Raúl Castaño de la Rosa are also identified as co-chairs.25911 The available sources do not state when ASUTUT was founded.
