ALTE MU eG is a cooperative based at Lorentzendamm 6–8 in Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It was founded on 13 April 2021 and entered in the Kiel cooperative register in July of that year. 46 The cooperative grew out of the wider ALTE MU community, whose earlier milestones include a shared forum established in 2014 and the founding of the ALTE MU Impuls-Werk association in 2015. 610
The cooperative’s purpose is to secure and develop the former art-school site as a mixed-use urban quarter for housing, work and cultural activity. 212 It holds the site’s 99-year leasehold and is responsible for financing the redevelopment; its subsidiary, Urbane Impulse GmbH, handles construction and operations. 1113 The association ALTE MU Impuls-Werk supports art and culture at the creative centre. 13
Plans describe up to 4,600 square metres of housing and 4,100 square metres of project space, with formats including cluster housing, studios and accommodation for students. 12 The cooperative says the project is intended to provide affordable housing and workspace in central Kiel; its published plans allocate 70% of the project to publicly subsidised housing. 12 These are development plans, not a description of completed facilities.
The organisation’s work is centred on the ALTE MU site in Kiel, with a local focus on members and the city’s residents. 112 The website lists Dr. Harald Frank and Friederike Kopp as board members and Norma Jensen as chair of the supervisory board. 4
