Wohnprojekt Horizonte e.V. is a community housing association in Wiesbaden, Germany. Its members live in individually rented flats in a building owned by the Wiesbadener Wohnbaugesellschaft (GWW), with shared rooms for communal activities.21 The project aims to help people in and beyond midlife maintain an independent and self-determined life for as long as possible, combining age-appropriate housing with mutual support among residents.21
The initiative began in March 2013, when founders Heidi Diemer and Heidrun Groeger developed the initial concept. The group held its first meeting on 27 June 2013, and the association was formally established in November 2014.14 The project’s developer and housing provider is GWW; the association is responsible for the community and its activities.21 Construction began in December 2016, and residents moved into the completed building on 1 June 2018.24
The building at Brunhildenstraße 43 contains 14 rental units, ranging from approximately 45 to 85 square metres, for a community of up to 14 residents.25 Members are encouraged to contribute skills and ideas while choosing their own level of involvement.2 The association also hosts a Wednesday afternoon café and participates in “Dreierlei,” a monthly community lunch in the Weidenborn district organized with local community and food-rescue groups.15 Its wider charitable purposes include support for older people and young people, refugee assistance, arts and culture, education, and civic engagement.9
