Vuores Kuusikko is a residential development of six wooden apartment buildings on two adjacent plots in the Isokuusi neighbourhood of Vuores, Tampere, Finland. It was completed in stages between summer 2021 and spring 2022, with the overall complex finished in spring 2022.1 The developers and clients were A-Kruunu Oy and TA-Asumisoikeus Oy; each has buildings on both plots.1
The complex contains 195 apartments, from 28 m² studios to 80 m² three-bedroom homes, and combines right-of-occupancy and standard rental housing.1 Its buildings range from four to six storeys. Shared site facilities include connected wooden storage units, a yard sauna and three wooden carports, alongside a partly underground concrete parking facility.1
Architectural design was by Arkworks Arkkitehdit Oy, with Mika Ukkonen as lead designer. Arkta Rakennus Oy delivered the project under a turnkey contract.1 Planning began in spring 2019, a building permit was granted in May 2020, and construction started in summer 2020.1
The buildings use a consistent gabled-roof form and timber facades in subdued green and brown tones. The design also incorporates wood in interior surfaces where fire-safety requirements allowed. The development was built on two plots leased from the City of Tampere and was described by Puuinfo as Finland’s largest wooden apartment-building project by floor area.1
