Spazio Forte is the social and community-use vision associated with the Municipality of Verona’s PINQuA project to regenerate Forte Santa Caterina and the former barracks in Verona, Italy. The site is in the Pestrino area, beside the Adige River, and covers about 76,000 square metres. 102 The project developer and public commissioning body is the Municipality of Verona; the municipal project page identifies the City’s Public Works area as responsible for the work. 26
The wider redevelopment combines restoration of the nineteenth-century fort with environmental remediation, landscaping, public open space and new buildings for public services and community facilities. 6 Its housing and support component provides for 20 social-housing units and a service centre for people in vulnerable circumstances, including people with disabilities. 1110 A public presentation of the name “Spazio Forte” took place on 4 September 2024; a co-programming process was proposed to involve organisations and other participants in shaping how activities and spaces would be managed. 710
The municipal project is organised into three lots: restoration of the fort; site clearance, remediation, green space and public-service facilities; and construction of housing and a service centre. 6 The municipal page reports €15 million in PNRR funding, €3 million from the Fund for Indifferible Works and €5.3 million in Verona municipal funds. 6 As of the information on that page, work on Lot I was completed on 30 December 2025, while completion of Lots II and III was scheduled for 31 March 2026. 6 The sources describe the area’s redevelopment and associated social-housing plans but do not identify individual project founders. 67
