První vlaštovka is a social housing cooperative and the pilot project of the Czech community-led housing network Sdílené domy. It is based in the Břevnov district of Prague, Czech Republic, where the cooperative purchased a large house in December 2021 and has since been working on its reconstruction.110 The project was formally established as a social cooperative around 2019–2022, with the cooperative registered under the name První vlaštovka, sociální družstvo and headquartered at Bělohorská 151/259, Prague 6.267
The developer and wider framework for the project is Sdílené domy, z. s., a Prague-based association founded around 2015 that is building a network of community houses providing financially accessible, collectively owned housing.410 První vlaštovka is the first house in this network and serves as its main pilot.1910
The cooperative’s collective consists of about 10 adults and 4 children and operates on non-hierarchical principles, with decisions made collectively.18 Beyond providing stable, long-term housing for its members, První vlaštovka aims to function as a neighbourhood hub. The house is planned to host public and semi-public activities such as discussions, film screenings, literary evenings, flea markets and other community events, emphasizing non-commercial cultural and social uses.19
První vlaštovka’s stated purpose, in line with Sdílené domy, is to provide financially accessible housing in shared ownership, strengthen neighbourly relations, and contribute to a broader, solidarity-based housing network in the Czech Republic.1910
