Hameau Marvingt is a 33-home participatory housing development in the Bottière-Chénaie eco-district of Nantes, at the corner of Rue Marie-Marvingt and Chemin de l’Écobut. The project was scheduled for delivery at the end of 2024, on land of 5,200 square metres identified by Nantes Métropole through its participatory-housing call for projects. 1
The project grew from two resident-led initiatives. The Hameau des Noues, a family group working in self-promotion, began in 2016; Maison Multiple, launched in 2014 by senior women, joined it in early 2020. Residents took part in designing the housing with Claas Architectes. ICEO, a social-economy developer, and social landlord Nantes Métropole Habitat supported the groups; NMH is responsible for nine social-rental homes. 1
The 33 homes combine 11 units for open-market purchase, 13 affordable purchase units through the PSLA rent-to-own scheme, and nine social rentals. The €7.3 million development brings together households of different ages and social backgrounds, including 10 senior households. 1
Shared facilities include a garden, two common rooms, a workshop, shared laundry rooms and collective storage. The homes use timber structures and plant-based insulation; the article reports insulation performance 40% above the applicable standard. 1 The project’s path to completion included delays and cost pressures: the first Covid-19 lockdown coincided with the start of co-design, and the tendering period was affected by rising material prices following the outbreak of war in Ukraine. 1
