The project converted the former administrative headquarters of the Brühler Knappschaft at Werderstraße 1 in Cologne into “MINER’S,” a condominium building in the Belgian Quarter. The building, an office block dating from around 1950, was originally used by the Knappschaft, an organisation associated with the Rhenish mining region. 15
The redevelopment retained much of the building’s historic substance while adapting it for residential use. It was converted into 43 owner-occupied apartments, ranging from approximately 25 to 182 square metres; the development also includes a penthouse with a large roof terrace. 5 The name “MINER’S” refers to the mining history of the former occupant. 1
A property development company acquired the building and redeveloped it under that name, according to the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger. 1 A project report identifies the CG Gruppe as the developer and CG Bauprojekte GmbH as responsible for carrying out the work. 5 The City of Cologne certified that the building could be occupied in December 2019. 5
The project is an example of an office-to-housing conversion in central Cologne. It illustrates the transformation of a former administrative building into private housing, rather than a broader programme of mixed-use redevelopment. 15 The sources identify no individual project lead or founding date for the development. 15
