De Ravel is a temporary housing project in Utrecht, Netherlands, created by converting a former municipal office building into 180 rooms. Socius Wonen delivered the conversion in cooperation with construction company Plegt-Vos. The building is at Ravellaan 96, in Utrecht’s Welgelegen neighbourhood. 136
The project began in July 2015 and was intended to operate for at least ten years. Its nine floors were arranged as shared living groups: residents had private rooms and shared a living room, kitchen, showers and toilets. The rooms measure 19, 22 or 27 square metres. 21
The original target group was young people aged 18 to 28; residents also included students, status holders and vulnerable young people. The project description lists a wider group, including people leaving care. 1 The building also accommodated shared facilities and community uses, including a restaurant, creative spaces, gardens and a football cage. 111
The building was owned by the municipality, while Socius Wonen operated the housing project. It was let under temporary arrangements while the municipality awaited decisions about the future use of the site. In 2025, reporting said the existing residents were required to leave as the temporary letting period came to an end; Socius subsequently advertised De Ravel for new tenants under its current eligibility criteria. 24812
