Culture Casbah is an urban development project in Rosengård, Malmö, Sweden, focused on the area between Rosengård station in the west and Rosengård Centrum in the east.2 Its stated aim is to make the neighbourhood safer and greener, while creating a destination and a more connected part of the city.2
The project is being developed by Rosengård Fastighets AB, the company responsible for owning, managing and developing Törnrosen and parts of Örtagården.23 Formed in 2017 to realise the project, the company is jointly owned by MKB Fastighets AB, Balder, Heimstaden and Victoria Park, with each holding an equal share.310 Petra Sörling was the company’s chief executive when it was formed and is quoted on the project’s goal of developing Rosengård for everyone.6
Culture Casbah’s proposed activities include new homes, offices, meeting spaces, childcare facilities, shops and places for services, sport and culture.2 The developer describes the project as a range of investments along the link between the station and the centre, rather than a single building.2 Rosengård Fastigheter’s published timeline says the project received recognition in 2013, the development company was formed in 2017, small-scale trials began in 2022, and construction was scheduled to start in 2027.3 In 2022, the company identified Bennets väg 13 as a test site and reported improvements to the amphitheatre.3
The initial concept dates to an architectural competition won by Danish practice Lundgaard & Tranberg Arkitekter; later project planning involved Swedish firm Kjellander & Sjöberg.39 The project’s scope and plans have evolved over time, including planning work and discussion of a landmark high-rise.3
