Andelssamfundet i Hjortshøj is a cooperative ecovillage on the edge of Hjortshøj, about 14 km northeast of Aarhus, Denmark. The association was founded in 1986, and the first homes were built during 1992–96. Its founding vision was to explore more sustainable ways of living, including climate- and environmentally conscious construction methods and materials, alongside community-oriented forms of housing. 2
The community is organised into eight housing groups, each forming part of the broader settlement. Since 2013, around 300 people have lived there in approximately 130 homes. 2 The project combines housing with shared community life: its stated focus includes sustainability and collective living, and it has developed as a settlement rather than a single housing block. 36
A distinct part of the community is Bogruppe 6, established to include young people and adults with special needs in the village’s residential and working community. The group became a reality in 2012, following an initiative by residents. 10 The project’s developer is the Andelssamfundet i Hjortshøj association itself; the available sources describe residents taking responsibility for the planning and implementation of the settlement, rather than identifying a separate commercial developer. 6
