The Adro project represents a significant urban development initiative in Lisbon, Portugal, designed to address the city's affordable housing shortage and revitalize public spaces. Located near the historic Basilica da Estrela and along Infante Santo Avenue in the heart of Lisbon, this ambitious residential development encompasses three new housing blocks totaling 20,000 square meters.

The project was developed by MASSLAB, an architecture firm known for its innovative approach to urban design and sustainable living solutions. The winning proposal was specifically praised by the competition jury for its exceptional urban integration and architectural sensitivity, distinguishing itself through its respectful relationship with the existing urban framework and infrastructure.

Adro will provide 100 affordable housing units while incorporating commercial spaces and two generous public areas designed for community use. The development features a distinctive design strategy that prioritizes public spaces before private development, reflecting a people-oriented mindset. The project includes a lush green garden with organic design elements featuring water features, topography, and varied vegetation, complemented by a geometric paved square that connects main pathways and honors the historical context of the Basilica.

MASSLAB's design seeks to bridge social gaps within urban areas and address the persistent lack of outdoor spaces in residential buildings. By seamlessly integrating new buildings with the existing urban environment, the project promotes pedestrian circulation and transparency in commercial areas.
