The ABZ Tower im Koch-Quartier is a significant housing development project in Zurich, Switzerland, being constructed by ABZ (Allgemeine Baugenossenschaft Zürich), Switzerland's largest housing cooperative founded in 1916. Located between the Albisrieden and Altstetten districts, this project is part of a larger development called Koch-Quartier.
The development includes a high-rise tower with approximately 200 apartments, along with a linear building, together offering a variety of 2 to 5.5-room units. The ABZ Tower is designed by Enzmann Fischer Partner Architects and Skala Landscape Architecture, both from Zurich.
When completed, the entire Koch-Quartier will provide 350 non-profit rental housing units for approximately 1,000 residents, along with 6,000 square meters of affordable industrial real estate and a 12,000 square meter public park that will incorporate a historic coal warehouse.
The project is a collaborative effort between ABZ, Kraftwerk1 (another housing cooperative), SENN Resources AG (which is developing commercial space), and the City of Zurich (developing the public park). All buildings in the development are being constructed to meet the standards of the 2000-Watt Society, reflecting a commitment to sustainability.
The expected completion dates are mid-2026 for the linear building and early 2027 for the high-rise tower. The project aims to create a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood with community spaces, a roof garden, retail spaces, gastronomy, and other amenities to support a diverse and sustainable urban environment.
