Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft der Justizangehörigen Frankfurt am Main e. G. (JuBa) is a housing cooperative established in 1948 by a small group of judicial employees aiming to address severe post-war housing shortages in Frankfurt am Main. Initially, members contributed both financially and through physical labor, creating a strong tradition of solidarity within the organization.
Today, JuBa is among the largest formerly non-profit housing cooperatives in the Rhein-Main region. It manages approximately 1,469 residential units and counts around 1,747 members. The average monthly rent is about 7.51 euros per square meter, positioning it in the range of subsidized housing though JuBa operates independently of public funding mechanisms. Its housing portfolio covers various neighborhoods including Sachsenhausen, Bornheim, Bergen-Enkheim, Eckenheim, and locations in the greater Frankfurt area.
JuBa’s activities revolve around the preservation, modernization, and construction of residential buildings. Over the decades, it has implemented extensive renovation projects, notably undertaking major upgrades such as new doors, flooring, modern electrical systems, and refurbished bathrooms and kitchens. Recent years have seen the cooperative balancing new construction with large-scale refurbishments to meet contemporary standards and the needs of families and seniors.
The cooperative’s ongoing work includes maintaining low vacancy rates and prioritizing both economic sustainability and social responsibility. JuBa’s role is both local and socially relevant, as it continues to contribute stable housing solutions in the rapidly developing Frankfurt region.
