WoGe Dresden eG is a Dresden-based housing cooperative founded in 2020 by a group of people active in housing politics. It presents itself as a solidarity-based umbrella cooperative that helps acquire existing houses together with the tenants living in them, or build new ones, with the goal of keeping homes permanently outside speculative real-estate markets.45
Its mission is explicitly tied to affordable housing in Dresden. The cooperative says it wants to create long-term secure and affordable homes for people who face barriers on the housing market, and it frames this as a contribution to the common good rather than profit generation.248 A central feature of its model is collective ownership: houses remain owned by the cooperative, while residents gain self-managed control over their homes through democratic and solidaristic structures.57
WoGe Dresden’s activities are local and practical rather than purely advocacy-based. It advises house groups, negotiates with the City of Dresden about community-oriented housing forms, and offers an organizational and legal framework for house projects.79 The cooperative also works with prospective sellers who want their property to remain linked to the community, and with supporters who can contribute through cooperative shares or member loans.28 One stated aim is to help strengthen the non-profit housing sector in Dresden, and it also mentions cooperation with the Leipzig umbrella cooperative SoWo eG.4
Geographically, its work is focused on the Dresden area.25 The cooperative’s registered address is on Böhmische Straße 14 in Dresden, and the website materials indicate a growing local role in neighborhood-level housing projects.69
