Trividend is a Belgian public-private investment fund established in 2001 to provide risk capital to organisations in the social economy. 1214 Since 2010, it has been officially recognised by the Flemish Government as the Flemish Participation Fund for the Social Economy. 13
The organisation is a recognised cooperative company headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. 711 Its activities focus primarily on Flanders and Brussels, where it finances social enterprises and other impact-oriented businesses. Trividend’s shareholders include the Flemish Government, social-finance organisations, institutional and private investors, and participating clients. 1215
Trividend provides financing through instruments including subordinated loans, convertible loans and equity participation. 1216 Its model is aimed particularly at early-stage businesses and organisations requiring relatively small amounts of capital; reported investment tickets range from €50,000 to €450,000. 14 The fund addresses a financing gap for enterprises that may not qualify for conventional lending because of an atypical business model, limited collateral or an early stage of development. 1314
The organisation works with social-economy enterprises that create employment for people with limited access to the labour market, as well as impact enterprises addressing wider social and environmental challenges. 1 Its three stated thematic areas are inclusive employment and talent development, circular solutions, and social innovation. 1 In addition to capital, Trividend offers guidance on impact strategy, financial sustainability and monitoring results. 121
Frederik Matthijs is Trividend’s director. 412 Other publicly listed senior contacts include investment managers Pieter-Jan Van de Velde, Jesse Dubois, Bie Boudolf and Wendy Van den Wyngaert. 12
