Tegnestuen Vandkunsten is an architecture firm headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, established in 1970 by Svend Algren, Jens Thomas Arnfred, Michael Sten Johnsen, and Steffen Kragh. Initially known for pioneering participatory approaches in social housing, their early project Tinggården (1971–1978) was among the first in Denmark to involve future residents in the planning process.
Today, the firm employs about 80 people and is managed by nine partners. Vandkunsten operates out of a converted workshop at Holmen in Copenhagen, where they work in a flat organisational structure that emphasizes collaboration and shared responsibility. Over more than five decades, they have taken on a wide range of projects—from residential architecture and urban regeneration to landscaping and city planning—across Scandinavia and northern Europe.
Their portfolio includes significant contemporary developments such as Bispevika in Oslo and award-winning sustainable projects like Lisbjerg Bakke.
