StadtteilGenossenschaft Hulsberg eG (SGH) is a housing cooperative based in Bremen, Germany. It grew out of a citizen-participation process concerning a new neighbourhood on the grounds of Klinikum Bremen-Mitte; the cooperative was entered in the register in 2016. 11 Its statutes set out a purpose of providing members with lasting, affordable, good-quality and secure housing, with ecological responsibility and social mix, and of supporting member-led housing projects. 4
SGH’s work centres on cooperative, self-managed housing and neighbourhood development. Its stated aims include homes that are affordable to people on low and middle incomes, and housing arrangements that are intergenerational, accessible and socially mixed. 11 The cooperative’s first completed housing project, Casa Colorida, is in Bremen’s Ellener Hof district; it is also developing a project in the New Hulsberg Quarter. 11
In the New Hulsberg Quarter, SGH has advocated for land to be made available through leasehold rather than sale, arguing that this can help sustain affordable cooperative housing. The organisation’s project group for building site 13 is called NH13. 12 In a press statement dated 30 April 2026, the cooperative called for the remaining plots intended for building groups to be offered under leasehold terms. The statement identified Peter Bargfrede as an SGH representative and Anne Mechels as a member of its board. The cooperative’s work is locally focused on Bremen, with its housing projects and advocacy relating to the city’s neighbourhoods and housing policy. 1112
