SLA is a Copenhagen-based, internationally active design studio founded in 1994 by Stig L. Andersson. The firm operates from offices in Copenhagen, Aarhus, and Oslo, employing a multidisciplinary team of around 130 people, including landscape architects, biologists, anthropologists, and city planners. SLA's work centers on landscape architecture, urban design, and masterplanning, with a focus on nature-based solutions that address climate, biodiversity, and social challenges in cities. The studio's approach is rooted in interdisciplinary collaboration, merging scientific analysis with participatory processes that engage local communities.
Over the years, SLA has developed more than 350 projects across three decades, spanning public parks, urban renewal, waterfront developments, and climate adaptation schemes. In Denmark, notable recent work includes Grønningen-Bispeparken in Copenhagen's Nordvest district, a 20,000 m² climate park designed to manage stormwater while providing new recreational and ecological value—a project that also won the 2025 Årets Arne, Denmark's top architecture award. SLA is also leading the design of Nordør – New Park in Nordhavn, a 30-hectare coastal nature park slated to become one of Copenhagen's largest new public spaces, emphasizing carbon sequestration, biodiversity, and community use.
Internationally, SLA's portfolio includes projects in Canada, China, the UAE, and various European countries, often focusing on integrating nature into dense urban environments. The studio has received recognition for its sensory and democratic approach to public space, and continues to work at multiple scales—from citywide masterplans to neighborhood interventions.
