Porto Vivo, SRU—formally Porto Vivo, SRU – Sociedade de Reabilitação Urbana do Porto, E.M., S.A.—is a municipal local company responsible for promoting urban rehabilitation in Porto, Portugal.16 It was established by public deed on 27 November 2004 and operates under the legal framework for local public enterprises and urban rehabilitation in Portugal.1
Its remit includes coordinating, managing, monitoring and evaluating urban rehabilitation operations in Porto where it is appointed manager, as well as rehabilitating certain buildings in the city’s housing stock identified in the municipal housing strategy.36 This work can include construction, renovation, conservation and management of homes intended for affordable-cost housing, and rehabilitation of housing in the city’s “ilhas”—traditional, compact housing clusters.6
The organisation also promotes accessible rental housing in Porto through municipal programmes.2 Its stated mission combines urban rehabilitation with sustainable and inclusive development, heritage preservation and delivery of the municipality’s affordable-rental housing programmes.1 Its activities therefore focus on the city of Porto rather than operating nationally or internationally.36
The company is wholly municipal in nature; its board is led by the President of Porto City Council, who may delegate the role to a municipal councillor.3 Porto Vivo’s current headquarters address is Avenida Fernão de Magalhães, 1862, 9th floor, Porto.48
