Munich Urban Colab is a permanent innovation center in Munich's creative quarter, launched in 2021 as a joint initiative of UnternehmerTUM and the City of Munich. After two years of construction costing around 30 million euros, funded by UnternehmerTUM on city-provided land, the 11,000-square-meter facility opened on June 28, offering offices, co-working spaces, event rooms, a high-tech MakerSpace workshop, café, and winter gardens.
Startups, established firms like BMW, Infineon, SAP, and Siemens, researchers from Technical University of Munich, creatives, and city officials collaborate here on urban challenges including mobility, climate protection, construction, and sustainability. City departments maintain on-site offices, such as the Munich City Lab for economic development, InnovationLab, IT WerkSTADT, and SWM/MVG Mobility Lab, facilitating direct exchange with citizens.
The center supports programs like Digital Hub Mobility, BEFIVE for construction digitalization, and appliedAI, while participating in the EU's New European Bauhaus to align innovations with the European Green Deal. Its open architecture promotes interdisciplinary work toward livable urban futures.
