MOSAIK – Leben in Vielfalt eG is a housing cooperative based in Dortmund, Germany, created to develop and manage inclusive housing for people with and without disabilities or support needs. Its purpose is to enable residents to live together in an accessible setting and with as much independence as possible.14
The cooperative was founded in 2015, alongside the associated non-profit organisation MOSAIK e.V. The project grew out of an initiative that began around 2002; Sylvia Günther and Gabriele Wiemann later founded the association in 2009 and both serve on the cooperative’s board.123 The cooperative’s registered address is Heinrich-Koch-Weg 1, Dortmund, and it is registered with the Dortmund Local Court.4
The cooperative provides the financial and organisational structure for acquiring land and building housing. Members buy shares, and residents have equal voting rights, whether or not they need support. Shares may also be secured for people who need financial assistance, a model the organisation describes as solidarity membership.1 The project’s financing includes both publicly subsidised and privately financed housing; the city lists 17 apartments, of which 15 are publicly subsidised, alongside a shared community room.9
The completed residential project is in Dortmund-Eving, at Winterkampweg 35. It accommodates an intergenerational community of around 30 people, with accessible features including a lift and shared indoor and outdoor spaces.69 The cooperative’s activities are focused on this local housing project in Dortmund; no broader geographic scope is indicated in the sources.19
