La Jeune Pousse is a French non-profit association established in Toulouse to develop a cooperative housing project. 21 The association was declared on 17 January 2008 at the Haute-Garonne prefecture under registration number W313008337. 2 Its statutory purpose is to create and animate a housing cooperative in Toulouse, inform and bring together people interested in supporting or joining it, and encourage the development of other housing cooperatives. 2
The organisation’s work led to the creation of Abricoop in September 2014. 17 Abricoop became the housing cooperative associated with La Jeune Pousse and was selected to participate in the participatory-housing development at the Cartoucherie eco-district in Toulouse. 31 The project is based on collective ownership and cooperative self-management of a residential building, with social and intergenerational diversity and ecological construction and living practices among its stated objectives. 18
Abricoop is located in the Cartoucherie district, within the “Aux quatre vents” participatory-housing block. 49 The completed project comprises 17 apartments; in 2018, the group reported 21 adults and seven children living in them, alongside 32 members of La Jeune Pousse. 3 Earlier development involved searches for an urban site or building to rehabilitate, cooperation with Toulouse public authorities, and support from organisations including Habicoop and Alter-Habitat Midi Pyrénées. 3711
The organisation’s activities are primarily local, centred on Toulouse, although its statutes also identify the promotion of other housing cooperatives and its partners connect it to the wider French cooperative-housing movement. 2611 Thomas Berthet served as president of La Jeune Pousse from April 2012 to April 2014. 12
