La Casa per gli Immigrati is a social cooperative based in Verona, Italy, that works on housing access for people and families of immigrant origin who have stable employment but face serious difficulty finding decent accommodation.14 The cooperative was established in summer 1991 as the building cooperative La Casa per gli Extracomunitari, following research by Verona’s Cestim on precarious housing conditions among migrant workers.3 Cestim, local unions, Caritas and emerging immigrant associations supported the initiative; its initial aim was to make about twenty apartments available through a cooperative property scheme.3
The cooperative’s work includes securing housing for residents, managing accommodation and providing practical support to tenants in areas such as bureaucracy, employment, social services and household finances.15 Its approach has included both rented and cooperative-owned homes: it reported managing 63 homes at the end of 2025, 11 of them owned by the cooperative.3 Its housing activity is centred on Verona and nearby communities, including San Martino Buon Albergo; a regional directory describes its area of action as the Veneto region.34
Its activities also include housing projects and partnerships. The Manutenere project, approved and funded by Fondazione Cariverona, focuses on shared-living practices and reducing difficulties and costs in housing management.3 In 2025 the cooperative also took part in the Agenzia dell’abitare process in Verona, contributing its experience with migrants and people facing housing difficulties.3 The cooperative’s board appointed Renzo Fior as president and Giovanni Barin as vice-president in 2025.3
