Ágora Cohousing, also referred to as Rabasa Cooperativa, is a housing cooperative developing an intergenerational cohousing project in Rabasa, Alicante, Spain. Its stated aim is to help prevent unwanted loneliness through collaborative living, with work focused on healthy and participatory ageing. The initiative grew out of a group brought together by Seniors Vida Sostenible, now Vida Sostenible Cohousing, which entered a public-land competition with a project designed by INDI Arquitectura Saludable y Emocional. 1
The cooperative won the competition for public land and received support from the Generalitat Valenciana. Fecovi and Concovi promoted the competition, and Rabasa Cooperativa obtained a construction licence from Alicante City Council in April 2023, following submission of the project in October 2020. 1 In August 2024, the cooperative was seeking to review documentation with the head of the Valencian Housing and Land Entity (EVHA), Rafael Eloy Montero Gosálbez, concerning delays against the original construction timetable. 1
The plan described in the 2024 report comprises 17 family units and one additional dwelling to be managed by the Generalitat Valenciana. It is intended as an intergenerational community on public land, with residents participating in a shared housing model rather than conventional individual ownership. 21 At the time of the report, the cooperative hoped construction would begin before the end of 2024 and the project would be completed by late 2026; those dates were expectations, not confirmation that construction had begun or been completed. 1
