GeCoh, whose full name is “Ge-Coh: Associazione per la promozione del Cohousing a Genova,” is an association established in Genoa on 25 June 2012, with its base at Zenzero. 2 It promotes cohousing in Genoa and Liguria through meetings, conferences and efforts to connect people and organisations interested in collaborative housing. 2
The association’s 2014 conference, held over two days in April and May, aimed to explain cohousing, bring interested groups and individuals together, and discuss with public bodies how policy could support such projects. 2 A workshop at the event produced three proposals: social cohousing open to people in vulnerable circumstances; an agricultural cohousing project incorporating co-working; and a project inspired by the Mondo di Comunità e Famiglia experience. 2
In subsequent years, the groups continued working on their proposals and sought to lay groundwork for a cohousing project in Genoa, but the original projects were not ultimately implemented. 2 In 2019, a group of people established the housing cooperative GECO Abitare Solidale with the aim of realising a cohousing project. 2 The available page does not identify GeCoh’s officers or other named leaders. 2
GeCoh’s stated activity is regional, focused on Genoa and Liguria; its documented work centres on public information, networking, project development and discussion of institutional support for collaborative housing. 2
